A Leaking Roof, a Seed of Faith, and a Community's Response

When an elderly couple's home needed urgent repairs, we prayed for provision. God answered through a $200 gift, generous local businesses, and faithful volunteers.

A Leaking Roof, a Seed of Faith, and a Community's Response

We were asked to check on a home in Saginaw owned by an elderly couple. Their roof was leaking badly, and their front steps were in rough shape. When our team arrived, it became clear that this would be an expensive project, more than we could afford at the time. So, we did the only thing we could: we prayed with the couple and asked the Lord to provide.

Our project manager said we needed tarps right away to prevent further water damage. Just a few days later, a couple approached me and handed me $200 to buy the tarps. The very next day, I went to Lowe’s Home Improvement in Saginaw. After I explained what we were doing, the store manager sold me enough shingles to replace the entire roof—for just $207.99.

A close friend then referred me to Vassar Building Center, Inc. I gave them a long list of materials we needed to complete the job. Not only did they have everything, but when I asked for a quote, the customer service rep told me to drive around to the back. Their team loaded every single item into my truck—free of charge. They simply said they love to help people in the community.

I was so excited to call the couple and share how God had answered their prayers. What started as a single $200 seed grew into a fully funded project, made possible by prayer, generosity, and faith.

We want to sincerely thank Lowe’s in Saginaw and Vassar Building Center for their incredible kindness. We also thank the volunteers who gave their time and energy to make this happen. Most of all, we give thanks to God for hearing and answering our prayers.

The power of prayer truly is amazing.
